Comment:
Sight reading went better today – felt easier more "fluent". Tried pushing things a bit at the end of the SR stuff by playing bar-memorise-play through an intermediate piece. This went better than anticipated. The idea is to read a bar or phrase, spot memorise it, then play it without looking at the score, then on to the next phrase. This is meant to simmulate reading ahead of what your actually playing. The last few times I tried this it was very difficult, but felt much easier today. I seem to be on target to finish Mikrokosmos book1 (the independant sight reading task) and the current volume of Peter Lawsons series for this weekend. Then its onto the next. The next in each series are already reserved down the library ready to collect.

The work on the VKGoesWild piece continues. It’s taking a while to forget and bury my attempt at this by ear (well the RH was OK), but getting the left hand and integrating with the right hand is a real chalange. Funily enough, I played through a Busoni-Bach piece a few times for some gentle contrasting relief, this seemed to help when I returned to the piece. I played about with the metronome and some very very slow play throughs are now on the menu together with polishing the joins between sections. The "hook" in the piece is getting far better both the tightly voiced chords in the middle and the more expansive Rachmanovian’s ones at the end. Still some more progress…
