Practice Log for 08/09/2011 at 21:50:33

Just scales and exercises tonight. Lowered the metronome of the Hanon to 50 so that I could ‘up’ the tempo (by playing 1/16ths rather than 1/8th notes which I couldn’t do with this exercise at 60). This seemed to help the weaker left hand cope better than at metronome setting of 60. I finished the current cycle around the circle of fifths. I’ll probably start the next tomorrow, but I’m leaving the tempo at the current setting. I’m no longer aiming for speed, rather “knowing” the notes without having to work them out at all. I also tried to focus on the left hand a bit, playing extra cycles of LH when doing HS work. The left hand feels much improved after 6 days of practice following the two month lay-off.

Checked on-line and there’s 10 or so reserved books of music for sight-reading ready for me to collect down the library. These include several collections of ABRSM grade 2 and another complete sight-reading series. I thought it worthwhile starting through these from the beginning again for revision and re-enforcement. Only down side is that the library has introduced a fee of £0.60 per book for reservations! Oh well I guess this is progress and if it keeps them open…..
