Sight Reading: A ‘tricky’ Christopher Norton piece from "Microjazz book1", because of the 5 beats (3 + 2) in a bar (and 6/4, 3/4 bars thrown in for good "measure"). Needs a weeks work just because of that! Counting the rhythm and trying to keep the pulse were the problems.

Studies and Exercises: These all went well. Hanon felt the smoothest it’s been and the set of scales were OK at 16th notes/met=92.

Pieces: Worked on quite a few! All seemed to be progressing and no major issues.

Awesome practice session today. Technique, sight-reading, polished last weeks "weekly" piece (which I’ll probably keep working on for a few minutes for the next week), started a new weekly piece "Marche des Soldats de bois" ABRSM G3 for 2005/06 syllabus and worked on the G4 piece "Freeway" a mock boogie kinda thang. ;-).

The scales at 16th notes with the metronome at 92 were again rather hit or miss, they seemed to be going OK then would fall apart HT. However, Hanon and the other studes went well.

I spend 25 minutes pre-studying the "Marche des slodats de bois" score with my "checklist" then played it through. Basically its dum, de-dum, de-dum dum dum in a March rhythm, but I managed to over analyze all the dotted ‘eight’ notes and ties. I think I was smoothing out the rhythm too much and will need to work on some of the key phrases. It’s going to need a nice crisp and sharp staccato approach.
